The concepts of the 12 Bridge Hands are not easily described in a written median, yet I’ll do my best to give a rudimentary overview in the hopes that it will spur individuals to research it further. A bridge, in Hung Kuen, can be defined as a connection between opponents. This can happen at the time of a strike, or while defending against a strike with a block. Often a bridge is used synonymous with the term blocking. Although that’s a correct usage it’s not the whole story. Think of a bridge as any time contact is made. Given that broader definition we then can look at the kind of intent and energy that is used when making contact. That’s where the concepts of the 12 Bridge Hands come into play.
